Marsalforn

Nestled between the hilltop villages of Xaghra and Zebbug, on the northwest coast of Gozo, the fishing village of Marsalforn has grown to become the island’s most popular summer resort, attracting locals, visiting Maltese and tourists alike. In the winter, the village is pleasantly peaceful and offers a real change of pace for its visitors.

Although it has developed somewhat from its humble beginnings, the village retains its traditional charm and surrounding natural beauty. In addition to the dramatic coastline around Marsalforn, a fertile valley surrounded by hillocks is found to the south. The most famous of these hillocks are tas-Salvatur, the top of which is graced by a twelve-meter statue of Christ.

Marsalforn’s history dates back to Roman times and, according to legend, it is also the embarkation point of Saint Paul when he left the Maltese Islands for Sicily following his shipwreck in Malta. In fact, the village church is called Saint Paul Shipwreck and is dedicated to his embarkation.

As well as being well served by restaurants, bars, shops and offering opportunities for wonderful walks and swimming, the beautiful sea around Marsalforn is very popular with divers.
